Potential) and Antioxidant Water
What is Oxidation? How does It Relate to Aging?
The Theory of Aging
We all understand the process of "oxidation reaction" when we see it
occurring in metals such as iron. We experience the ever-present battle
with "rusting" in our patio furniture, our bicycles and so many of our
appliances made from some form of iron.
Within the human body, "oxidation reaction" occurs when normal body
processes take place. When oxygen combusts (oxidation) it then
produces by-products referred to as "oxygen free radicals".
These free radicals create an atmosphere of instability in the body that
can damage, disrupt and even destroy neighboring cells. Because
these unstable free radicals have
lost an electron they will try to steal an electron from or donate an
electron to nearby molecules in order to become balanced again.
If unchecked, over time the free radical damage builds in the body.
We call this build-up of damage "aging".
How Can We Reduce Oxidation Effects?
The "Anti"oxidants
Many
experts suggest that anti-oxidants can help slow the aging process by
reducing the daily cell damage caused by normal bodily function, by
environmental pollution, by improper eating habits, and by time. We know that certain foods are
rich in antioxidants (such as blueberries) and many nutritional

Ionized Alkaline Water Produces Negative ORP and Hydroxyl Ions
1)
Negative Charge
All
liquids have an ORP, Oxidative Reduction Potential .
Normal
tap water has an ORP of +200 to +600 mv. It does not have any
potential for reducing oxidation because its ORP is positive.
Only a negative ORP can reduce or negate oxidation. Water
produced by a quality Water Ionizer typically has an ORP of about -250
to -400 mv. With this negative charge it can act as an antioxidant
that can reduce oxidation, neutralize harmful free radicals, and retard
the aging process.
ORP
is measured in millivolts with an ORP meter. When we use this type of
meter we are reading the very slight voltage in water which is actually
measuring the presence of oxidizing and reducing agents, or Oxidation
Reduction "Potential". High pH water (alkaline water) has more
"reducing" agents (-ORP). Low pH water has more oxidizing agents
(+ORP).
Alkaline water acts an antioxidant, scavenging for and neutralizing
free-radicals. Because alkaline water has the ability to give up
electrons, it can effectively neutralize and block free radical damage
to the body. Ionized Alkaline Water seeks out free radicals and converts
them into oxygen which your body can use for energy production and
tissue oxygenation.
2) The
Presence of Hydroxyl ions and Increased Oxygen
As
Ionized Alkaline Water is produced, hydroxyl ions are created. You will
see a cloud of tiny bubbles in the water. These are oxygen molecules
with an extra electron attached to them. In the same way mountain stream
water passing over the surface of rocks picks up electrons and oxygen,
Alkaline Water has high levels of Hydroxyl ions and oxygen.
In the body, Hydroxyl ions scavenge for free radicals which are unstable
oxygen molecules that cause cellular damage. When the Hydroxyl molecule
and the free radical collide, the body is provided with high levels of
oxygen which improves energy levels.
Energy derived from oxygen is the best form of energy. It keeps us
alert, invigorates our bodies, and carries vital nutrients throughout
the body. Drinking Ionized Water on a regular basis will increase the
levels of oxygen in the blood. This can be especially important for
cancer patients who are often fatigued because their blood oxygen levels
are low after being depleted by the process of mutual destruction
between cancer cells and oxygen molecules.
