Colds and Flu
Adults come down with an average of 3-4 colds every winter and those who spend time with small children get even more.  Work time is lost, school is missed and personal plans are disrupted.

There are steps you can take to reduce your chances of getting a cold or flu, or at least reduce their severity and duration.

Internal Security Force
A decrease in the effectiveness of our immune system is the major factor in catching a cold.  In a world filled with viruses and bacteria, building good health and resistance to disease is no accident.  It requires a strong immune system.  You should consider the immune system as an internal security force that is constantly monitoring everything entering your body and watching for invading cold and flu viruses.

Research has shown that a number of nutrients can have a profound effect on stimulating the body's own immune system to deal effectively with the invading viruses.

Juicing on a consistent basis, especially in the cold and flu months, can enhance overall immune function.  Fresh vegetable and fruit juices provide the body with those nutrients that have been shown to be important in the immune response.  These include Vitamin C, Beta-Carotene, the mineral Zinc, and the entire B complex.

Vitamin C seems to play a role in almost every stage of the immune system.  Numerous studies show that Vitamin C stimulates the immune system in several ways.  It enhances the production of antibodies and keeps infections from spreading through the body.  The citrus juices, grapefruit, orange and lemon are particularly high in Vitamin C.  An average sized orange contains the daily recommendation of Vitamin C.

Beta-Carotene, the precursor to Vitamin A because it is converted to Vitamin A as the body needs it, is recognized as an immune supporter.  It helps keep your mucous membranes strong and resistant to infections, improving the body's defense mechanism.  The green juices such as spinach, beet greens, kale and cabbage are high in Beta-Carotene.  Carrots and apples are also high in Beta-Carotene.
