Acidosis is a condition
in which the normal acid-alkaline balance of the body has shifted
towards acidic. The human body has a complex regulation mechanism
designed to maintain proper acid alkaline balance.
Acid / alkaline levels
are in balance when the concentration of acidic ions (H+) equals
the concentration of negatively charged alkaline ions (OH-) .
The more hydrogen ions present, the higher the tissue acidity
levels. Neutrality is measured as 7 on the acid-alkaline scale.
The pH scale ranges from 0 (highest acidity) to 14 (highest alkalinity.)
Many illnesses and disease conditions are related to a slow shift
of the body balance to the acidic side.
BODY MAINTAINS PROPER pH
The body has several
complex mechanisms to maintain the acid/alkaline balance. the
lungs expel carbon dioxide which, when excessive, forms carbonic
acid. Kidneys eliminate acids in the urine. Even the skin tissues
are involved in secreting excess acids.
Blood plasma should
be maintained in the range of 7.4, slightly alkaline, for optimal
health. When the body is unable to control the levels of acids,
these acids are deposited elsewhere in the body causing illness.
CAUSES OF ACIDOSIS
Metabolic acidosis can
be caused by a number of factors including: inadequate water
intake, stress, consumption of acid-forming foods, too little
physical activity, and age-related decline in kidney function.
Foods that contribute
to acidosis include fats, dairy products, alcoholic beverages,
processed foods, and coffee.
Some of the symptoms
associated with acidosis include: fatigue, frequent sighing,
insomnia, water retention, gastrointestinal problems, and reduced
WITH CHRONIC ACIDOSIS
Disease conditions that
are associated with chronic body acidosis include gout, heartburn,
gastritis, sore muscles, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, skin disease,
obesity, frequent colds, and more serious conditions such as
heart disease and cancer.
Daily consumption of
alkaline water produced by a quality water ionizer is one of
the most effective ways to maintain proper body acid/alkaline
levels. In addition, reducing consumption of acid-forming foods,
proper rest and exercise, and lowering stress levels can help
you eliminate acidosis.
